FMA iPhone 155x300 Mowbi in The Portland Press HeraldFREEPORT — Want to know more about what businesses in Freeport are offering? Where to get the best takeout pizza? What hotels are nearby?

There’s an app for that.

The Freeport Merchants Association has launched the Freeport App, which can be downloaded for free from iTunes.

The association’s executive director, Myra Hopkins, said this offer of the latest in marketing technology will benefit residents, travelers and businesses.

“This opportunity puts the Freeport Merchants Association and its entire membership at the leading edge of what seems to be an explosion in mobile capability,” Hopkins said.

The association comprises 130 businesses, including shops, restaurants and hotels. Membership fees help keep services such as a comprehensive map and the Web application free to travelers and residents.

“Mobile devices are becoming more and more powerful and ever more present. As this medium expands, so does the marketing impact and opportunity that is offered by it,” Hopkins said.

Having seen travelers on the streets of Freeport this summer with smart phones in hand, Hopkins said the Freeport App will enhance their experience.

For example, she said, if someone is looking for the best place to order a pizza to go, they can pull up the application, search the dining function and find the restaurant, menu and phone number immediately.

The Freeport Merchants Association partnered with Pulp+Wire and Mowbi, two Portland-based design, Web and mobile firms, to facilitate the creation of the application, which was launched two weeks ago.

Members of the association have a page in the mobile website that acts as an enhanced listing, complete with color and template options and company information.

“You will have the Freeport experience at your fingertips,” she said.

In addition to the business listings, there are options such as text clubs for text-message marketing or mobile invoicing, allowing businesses to create and send invoices to customers electronically.

The Freeport App can be downloaded via iTunes on the iPhone, iTouch or any Web-browsing phone.

Pulp & Wire Gets in the Mobile Social Networking Game with Mowbi Connect

pulpwire icon Pulp & Wire Gets in the Mobile Social Networking Game with Mowbi Connect Pulp & Wire, an internationally recognized design firm located in Portland, Maine has found great uses for Mowbi Connect, the social networking tool offered by the Mowbi Platform.

Michael Geneseo, Pulp & Wire Client Manager says, “Mowbi Connect is quickly proving to be the quickest way to keep up not only with our clients, colleagues and competition, but with our own social media output.  Mowbi Connect has proven in a very short time to be an effective way of not only managing our own social media outlets but of connecting in a much more profound way through a combination of mobile technology and social media with our existing networks, be they business, social, familial, …whatever level.”

Mowbi Connect allows users to create unique mobile web pages for themselves or their business. Users upload links to their Website, Blog, Twitter, Facebook and YouTube videos ( among other social sites ) to create a mobile space that not only allows them to keep in touch with friends, customers, and colleagues, but also creates a strong mobile presence for mobile search engines.

Companies like Pulp & Wire can use Mowbi Connect to stay up to date on clients, while marketing themselves at the same time.

Geneseo states, “In our ever-expanding outreach with the various social media, it becomes increasingly difficult and time consuming to manage our connections, our contacts and our relationships appropriately. Mowbi Connect is starting to untangle the wires and helping to see the forest for the trees. We have seen the introduction of at least three new impactful social media platforms in just the past few months. As  this prolific medium continues to grow and splinter, we will become increasingly scattered in our connections and consistency. Mowbi Connect provides a stable and intuitive platform from which to delve into the social media sphere and make sense of it.”

Right now, Mowbi is offering the Mowbi Connect program for free. Visit www.mowbi.com or call 1-800-985-9277 to get set up. For additional information about Mowbi Connect and the Mowbi Platform, e-mail Bill@mowbi.com or Jordan@mowbi.com .
